Burma Army Burns Villages In Sagaing Region

The Burma Army (BA) have been torching village after village in southern Kalay Township, where its forces have launched an clearance campaign to drive out the resistance groups fighting the military dictatorship in Sagaing Region.

In their second assault on Leh Char in the past week, soldiers from BA destroyed the remaining houses in the village last week, although no fighting was reported in the area, an anonymous source who’s helping villagers affected by the fighting told Khonumthung News.

All of the 200 houses in Leh Char were destroyed by fire.

A few days earlier, BA troops had also attacked Kukko and Shar Daw.

Already 40,000 people have fled the regime’s soldiers, who have set fire to over 1,000 houses in 10 villages in the township, including Ashay Si, Shar Hpo, Tin Tha and Yay Shin.

The civilians are hiding in the jungle and in urgent need of humanitarian aid and materials to build shelters.
