Nearly 5,000 locals have fled the fighting between the junta armed forces and the Local People’s Defense Forces on the eastern side of Phekone Inn on the Shan-Karenni border, the rescue workers told Than Lwin Times.

Because of the conflict, about 5,000 people from 15 villages, including Saungnanke, Semilaw, and Kafu, have fled to adjacent woodlands since May 15.

IDPs are finding it harder to acquire food as the conflict intensifies, and they are in desperate need of shelter and food, according to a Karenni refugee relief network representative.

Currently, the military council’s Loikaw artillery and Pekon artillery continue to fire on the villages, and there have been deaths on both sides, as well as several military men killed in the conflict.

Due to fighting between the junta forces and the PDFs in Karenni State after the military takeover, more than 170,000 locals were forced to live in adjacent jungles and IDP camps.

According to the rescue personnel, more than half of the displaced individuals may soon suffer food shortages.
