A military junta drone attack killed five civilians—including a five-month-old infant—in western Hpruso Township on August 4, residents and rescue workers said.

The strike occurred around 6:00 p.m. when junta forces deployed a drone to drop two heavy bombs directly onto a residential area.

“They dropped bombs from a drone — two large munitions hit a group of villagers,” a resident told Kantarawaddy Times.

According to community sources, three men died instantly at the scene, while two others—including a five-month-old baby girl and a 48-year-old woman—succumbed to severe injuries while receiving emergency medical treatment.

A 65-year-old man was among those killed on the spot; the ages of two male victims have not yet been verified. Several other residents sustained injuries and are currently undergoing care.

The incident marks the second drone assault in the area in two days. On the afternoon of August 3, junta forces dropped another drone bomb in eastern Hpruso Township, wounding a 40-year-old woman.

Residents report that fear is mounting across Hpruso Township as the regime increasingly relies on aerial drone bombardments against civilian-populated areas.

Junta troops currently maintain control of the strategic Demoso–Hpruso–Bawlake highway, frequently firing artillery and launching drone strikes into surrounding areas where displaced civilians are sheltering, leading to regular casualties.
