On 3 April a United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) convoy carrying basic foodstuffs for displaced people (IDPs) from Pakokku was stopped by the Military Council near Kamma Township in Magway Region.

The convoy was not allowed to enter the city and was forced to return to where it had come from.

The humanitarian aid being carried by the convoy was destined for IDPs staying in Magway region’s Yaw and Kyaukhtu townships and Chin State’s Mindat

The Kyaukhtu Refugee Committee said: “We apologize for the inability to distribute the humanitarian aid provided by WFP to the refugees”.

Rice, edible oil, basic food essentials, beans and pulses and nutritional supplements for breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women were included in the humanitarian aid that was blocked from arriving.

Since the 1 February 2021 coup the WFP has been doing its best to access and help sustain vulnerable people who have been affected by the conflict and violence.

According to the United Nations official page, in late December the WFP delivered two months’ worth of relief food rations to over 500 IDPs in Mindat Town and supplied two months’ worth of rice rations to over 900 IDPs from Mindat who were staying in Kyaukhtu.
