Although the coup council’s Union Election Commission has threatened to dissolve the party, the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) responded that they will not change their stance.

As the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) rejected to submit an audit, it would be taken action after March 27, the junta’s Union Election Commission (UEC) said at a press conference in Naypyidaw on March 24.

U Khin Maung Oo, a member of the Union Election Commission of the military council, said that the UEC had twice notified the NLD and the SNLD parties to be audited but they failed to do so.

The management committee of the Union Election Commission will take necessary action against the two parties in accordance with the law, he added.

Sai Leik, general secretary of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) said that the UEC should come to the office to inspect the party’s audit, and that SNLD wil not change its stance. And he declined to comment on the UEC’s claim.

If the parties do not follow the deadline, a political party can be suspended for up to three years until it is dissolved pursuant to Sections 24 (c), (d) and (e) of the Law on Registration of Political Parties, the military council’s UEC said.

Regarding this, Than Lwin Times tried to contact officials of the National League for Democracy (NLD) but received no response.
