Philanthropist Dr. Chan Myae Aung Sentenced to One Year in Prison

Dr. Chan Myae Aung, a philanthropist in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, was sentenced to one year in prison on February 9.

He was arrested at Ngwe Moe Hospital, Mawlamyine, on December 5 on charges of buying treasury bonds from the National Unity Government (NUG).

However, no evidence was found so the case was filed under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code on charges of re-sharing texts criticizing the State Administration Council on social media.

He was taken to Kyaikmaraw Central Prison on December 23 after the case was filed.

Dr. Chan Myae Aung visited and provided medical treatment not only in Mawlamyine but also in various townships during the Covid period and He is receiving free medical treatment at the Sasana Nwe Foundation Zivita Dana Clinic in Mawlamyine.

Dr. Chan Myae Aung, a military doctor, resigned from the military more than three years ago. He is currently working as a philanthropist.
