Yangon struggles with crematorium quota system

The death toll in the third wave of Covid-19, which is on the rise in Myanmar, has increased putting further pressure on crematoriums.

Officials have requested a quota system township by township as the number of victims increase.

Social workers said more than 100 people have died every day in the third wave of the Covid- 19, most of them died from low oxygen (hypoxia).

Mizzima contacted authorities in cemeteries about resources (fuel) for cremations because of the uncontrollable situation, but they refused to comment.
