Man Shot Dead in Tachileik

Sai Hseng Hleng — A 19-year old young man was shot dead in Tachileik on the Thai border with eastern Shan State on Monday evening.

A group of unidentified armed men shot Maung Thuta Moe on Pon Loh street in San Hsai Ward in Tachileik Township at around 7:00 p.m. on August 31, according to local sources.

“Gunmen shot into the house from street. We are investigating this murder case. We are carrying out an investigation into who the gunmen are,” Pol-Maj Nyi Nyi Htwe from Tachileik police station told SHAN.

The Tachileik Free Funeral Service team brought the victim to the local hospital, but he reportedly died upon arrival.

Tachileik General Administration Department officer Chan Myae Saw refused to comment on the case as the investigation was ongoing.

He did add that Maung Thuta Moe had worked as a security guard in a hotel in Tachileik.

Shootings are not uncommon in the border town, but perpetrators are rarely arrested.
