Teacher Quarantined After Having Contact With COVID-19 Case

A high school teacher, who was marking final exams in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State, was sent to a quarantine facility at Myitkyina Public Hospital this Thursday after having contact with COVID-19 Case 149.

Dr. Aung Win, rector of Myitkyina University, where the teacher was marking exams since June 3, says the person’s roommate has also been put under quarantine. “Until now, the health department hasn’t given further instructions to the remaining teachers, but we will take whatever action that is necessary when the order comes in.”

According to the Kachin State COVID-19 Response Committee, Case 149 visited the school teacher’s home before the teacher travelled to Myitkyina to mark the students’ exams. As a precautionary measure, eight people who had contact with Case 149 were placed in quarantine.

There have been two confirmed cases in Kachin State. The first, Case 144, has recovered and discharged from the hospital.

The Ministry of Health and Sports reported that on Friday there were 261 confirmed cases, while there were 6 deaths and 165 recoveries.
