Commentary on “Myanmar lacks ‘will’ to repatriate Rohingya”

First, the mindset of powers-that-be must be changed from racism to anti-racism. This has to be done in such a way by repentance and undoing the negative indoctrination of the public for decades.

Second, the government, including the public have to accept that the Rohingya are part of the country’s ethnicity and ready to integrate them through government institutions. There is no point in arguing that because they speak Bengali they are foreign. If this is the case, why don’t the government kicked out the Kokangnese, who speak Han Chinese.

And third, the government has to cooperate with the UN and its FFM to redress by allowing transitional justice to right the wrong, according to the universal human rights, and earnestly work for reconciliation and reintegration of the Rohingya.

These are precisely the three core points which the Naypyitaw has to accept and apply, if it wants to become mainstream again within the international community.
