More than 40 human trafficking cases have been reported in the first two months of this year, with the majority of victims sent to China for forced marriage, according to the Myanmar Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force, state media reported.

 In January and February, 41 cases of human trafficking involving 140 suspects and 59 victims were investigated. Among the victims, there were 8 children — two boys and six girls.

“With 31 cases of forced marriages reported from China, the country is emerging as a significant destination for trafficked persons. Five cases of exploitation of Myanmar workers were reported in Thailand, China, and the domestic labour market, while one case of illegal surrogacy to China was registered,” according to data from the Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force.
