Bogyoke statue to be built in Chin State without state budget

The state budget will not be used in building Bogyoke statues in the Chin State and they will be built with donations, the Chin State Municipal Affairs Minister U Soe Htet said.

“A donor plans to donate Ks 30 million for Bogyoke statue. The donor plans to full charge [in building the statue]. We won’t use the state budget. This is only with public donation. Also, it will be built with [donations] from organizations and donors,” said U Soe Htet.

Bogyoke statues will be erected in Hakha and Htantlang in the Chin State and a bronze statue has been ordered from the Sagaing Region, he continued.

Residents of Htantlang have objected to the issue of erecting Bogoke Aung San’s statue and expressed their wish to erect the statues of Chin heroes and leaders.

“They objected in the past, but it’s different now because we won’t build them with the state budget and they will be built with donations from the donors. Also, there were some objections against Bogyoke Park at first. Our aim is to build a recreational park for the public. It is being built as a public park,” said Minister U Soe Htet.
