UPDJC’s political party delegates, Kachin public to meet in Myitkyina

Political party delegates from the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) and the Kachin public will meet in the Kachin State’s capital Myitkyina on August 31.

The UPDJC member Dr Manam Tu Ja said they are visiting the countryside to listen to the public voice while the UPDJC meetings are not being held in order to make the peace process more effective .

“Public voice is important in building peace. The nation-level political dialogue wasn’t allowed in the Kachin State because the KIO (Kachin Independence Organization) haven't signed the NCA (nationwide ceasefire agreement). In this situation, the meeting between the leaders of the parties group from the UPDJC and the public is important,” he said.

They will meet with political parties that won within the state in the election  as well as those that lost in the election on August 29-30 before meeting with the public.

They expect to meet with around 300 people from civil society organizations at the program on August 31.

This activity is a program carried out by the UPDJC political parties group and they have decided to meet with the public in every state and region.
