Mon State Chief Minister orders temporary suspension of rock quarries in Kyaikhto Tsp

The Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan has issued a temporary suspension of rock quarries in Kyaikhto Township on May 26 after the rock quarries have been criticized on social media as the 'Second Hpakant'.

He ordered Thaton District Administrator and Kyaikhto Township Administrator to inspect the rock quarries in Kan-Ni and Pyin-Ka-Doe-Kone village groups under Kyaikhto Township.

“The Environmental Conservation Committee has been instructed to inspect the rock quarries in not only Kan-Ni and Pyin-Ka-Doe-Kone village groups but also the ones in Paung Township. The rock quarries need to be shut down. Some rock quarries don’t understand the environmental law,” said Dr. Aye Zan.

Kyaikhto Township General Administrative Department has granted licenses to 52 gneiss quarries and two laterite quarries in Kyaikhto Township, according to statistics from the department.
