Two residents from Kone Thar Village have been shot in Hsipaw Township in northern Shan State at 1 am on May 20 and they have been taken to the Mandalay Hospital.

“A couple was shot. The husband received two injuries on his thigh. The wife received an injury each on her face, stomach, and thigh. The child wasn’t harmed. They have been taken to the Mandalay Hospital,” said Ko Myo from the Border-less Parahita Association.

He continued that they do not know which group shot the two villagers and their conditions are not life-threatening.

“A resident of Kone Thar called our group so we assisted the injured people with the [police] officers from Hsipaw Township Police Station. We don’t know which group was responsible,” said Ko Myo.

Frequent shootings have been reported in Hsipaw Township within this month and a resident of Kone Thar Village was shot to death by an unknown armed group on May 9.

“We heard about frequent shootings in Hsipaw Township. I’m scared after hearing that they went inside the house and shot [the people]. I don’t feel safe anymore,” said a woman from Hsipaw.

The Tatmadaw, the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army – North (SSPP/SSA-N) and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) are active in Hsipaw Township.
