Thayargone Bridge on Minbya-Myebon Road is in danger of collapsing

The Tharyargone Bridge on the road connecting Minbya and Myebon in the Rakhine State is in danger of collapsing due to damages in the pillars, according to a report and photo circulating on social media.

The bridge is located 12 miles from Minbya and 12 miles from Myebon and it is widely used by people.

“This bridge is very long and it is widely used by people. It was built five or six years ago during the construction of the road connecting Minbya and Myebon. The pillars are not strong so they have become broken like this,” said U Thein Zan, a resident of Minbya.

Local residents said the bridge is around six years old and the wooden pillars of the bridge have been rotting away so danger may fall to people using the bridge.

“The bridge is located in my constituency. I haven’t received a report on the dangerous condition of the bridge. I can only talk about it after seeing it personally. Now I’ve arrived in Sittwe and I will reply after I have observed the bridge,” said U Hla Aung Nyunt, Pyithu Hluttaw MP from Minbya Township.
