The Arakan National Party (ANP) discussed about holding its party conference during a meeting held at its headquarters in Sittwe on May 7.
“We proposed to the central committee to hold the party conference in early 2019. We discussed the issues on organizing ward/village and township committees before the conference is held,” the party’s secretary U Tun Aung Kyaw told Narinjara News.
The party decided to reorganize the ward/village level starting from now and complete it by October and finish organizing the township committees by December.
Members of the party’s central executive committee and the party’s parliamentary representatives attended the meeting.
The ANP has been trying to hold the party conference since 2017 but it was unable to implement it due to the incidents that took place in Maungdaw area.
U Tun Aung Kyaw said a new chairman for the party will be elected in line with the party’s rules and regulations since the current chair Dr. Aye Maung has submitted his resignation.
