Myanmar nationalists staged a protest on 10 July with the objective of pressuring the government to use the term "Bengalis" to refer to the Muslim Rohingya community in the country, Channel News Asia reported on 11 July.
According to the report, the protest was one of many which the nationalists, who say they fear the Rohingyas will be encouraged to take over Rakhine state, have threatened to continue to organise if the government does not change their terminology.
The protesters marched for about five minutes from Shwedagon pagoda before they met a human police barricade. Initially police refused to let the protestors proceed through a route that had not been approved but eventually they allowed them through to avoid casualties.
