The VIP Guesthouse will be a four-story building once completed, and over 1,100,000,000 Kyat will be spent.

“The government has known what the Hluttaw has confirmed. However, it is in their hands whether they will build it or not. On the Hluttaw’s part, it did not permit the VIP Guesthouse project to go ahead but rather suggested to use the budget for projects that are beneficial to the public. That is what the Hluttaw has confirmed for the proposal,” said Daw Tin Ei, Mon State Hluttaw Speaker.

In addition to rejecting the VIP Guesthouse proposal, Hluttaw also doesn’t permit the State Advocate General Office building project. Over 2,000,000,000 Kyat will be spent on both projects.

On October 4, 2016, at the Mon State Hluttaw conference, U Htun Min Aung, Hluttaw representative of Paung Township Constituency (1), proposed to spend the finances allocated for the VIP Guesthouse on projects that benefit the public. As per this proposal, the Hluttaw has approved.

However, on January 6, 2017, in a meeting at the Mon Hluttaw Conference Hall, Chief Minister U Min Min Oo and other ministers regarded as government members, requested for Hluttaw representatives to continue the VIP Guesthouse project since it has already started. Comparatively, the finance that was to be spent on the State Advocate General Office will now be spent on public projects.

“The proposal was successful during the last Hluttaw [term] as they requested not to build it but use the budget for the public benefit. However, with this current state government’s situation, it is truly necessary to have the VIP Guesthouse building for government officials. Regardless, it is unsure how the Hluttaw will review the matter,” said U Htun Htaw, Mon State’s Minister of Agriculture, and Transport and Communications Ministry.

The VIP Guesthouse construction started on June 1, 2016, and is being built by Hexagon Company. So far, it has already finished two stories of the building.
