The 3rd Human Rights Human Dignity Travelling Film Festival (HRHDTFF) was held in Ye Township, Mon State on 29 November.
Thirteen films were screened at Dhama Hall, Sarsana 2500 Monastery, in Thiri Kaymar Ward, Ye Town.
Before the festival U Aung Naing Win, the secretary of Ye Township Social Society Group and a joint-organiser of the film festival said: “This is the first time such a festival has happened in Ye [Town]. We believe that the films will educate the locals. Everyone should come and see the films.”
Director Min Thant Oo, another festival organiser said: “There will be films about children’s education, women’s rights, labour rights and farmers rights.”
The winner of the ‘Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’ award, ‘Introduction’ directed by Min Thant Oo was also screened. The film is about the coal-fired power station that the Toyo Thai Company wants to build near Andin Village and how it will affect the environment and the locals lives.
Mi Sandar Aye, a youth from Anndin Village said: “I thank them for showing this film both in this country and abroad, as the film shows what is happening in our area and how the locals are being lied to.”
Directors from the Human Dignity Film Institute made all the films shown at the festival.
The first HRHDTFF festival was previously held in Moulmein, the Mon State capital and the second one was held at Paung Town in Mon State.
