A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.5 on the Richter scale was felt in Indo-Myanmar border area on Tuesday morning.
According to Indian Meteorological Department, the tremor took place at 7:11 am, which was however reported without any casualties.
Burma bordering northeast Indian States also felt the quake, where the residents of Guwahati, Shillong, Kohima, Aizawl cities came out of their residences in the morning hours. A small tremor also reportedly
occurred in Diphu and its adjacent area of Assam almost two hours before it.
The agency report from NayPyiTaw confirmed that the earthquake jolted central Mynmar and also neighboring Bangladesh too.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the earthquake was determined 57 km away from Khampat in Myanmar, which hit in Burmese local time at 7.41 am.
