Two young children were killed when military council forces dropped a bomb from a drone onto a village in Nanmekhon Township at around 1:00 p.m. today, June 24, according to a member of the Nanmekhon Arr Mar Thit charity organization who spoke to Kantarawaddy Times.

“It happened around 1 o’clock — they dropped it from a drone. Once we realized a drone was circling, teachers released the children from school. The first bomb landed near a paddy field. Because the situation was dangerous, the children were told to run and hide — they hid under a pumpkin vine. Then shrapnel scattered and hit one of the children,” said the Nanmekhon Arr Mar Thit charity member.

The young girl who was struck by drone-dropped shrapnel died on the spot; she was around 10 years old. Another child, aged 6, was also injured and later died from the injuries, according to aid workers.

The village had reportedly seen no armed clashes and was inhabited by civilians. On the same day, military council forces also conducted drone surveillance and strikes on two villages along the Shan-Karenni border. According to local residents, the village where the two children were killed was struck by drone-dropped bombs approximately three times.

On June 15, military council forces also dropped a bomb from a drone onto a village in Nanmekhon Township, injuring a man around 40 years old after he was struck by shrapnel.
