Rakhine youth living in Yangon are being urged to exercise extreme caution as local authorities intensify arrests of individuals on "guest lists" to fulfill military service quotas.

According to reports from the CJ Platform, ward administrators across various townships in the Yangon Region have ramped up efforts to detain residents for military conscription.

On May 6, in Myoma Ward, Hlegu Township, administrators conducting guest list inspections arrested two young men who were not registered. Rather than being processed at a police station, the youths were sent directly to the No. 1 Military Basic Training Unit.

Local sources indicate a disturbing trend: wealthy families are reportedly paying off administrative officials to exempt their sons from service. To fill the resulting vacancies in their quotas, administrators are targeting vulnerable individuals during guest list checks and bypassing the standard legal system to deliver them straight to military academies.

The disappearance of Rakhine youth in Yangon is rising daily. A relative recently informed Narinjara that two siblings in their 20s went missing under suspicious circumstances.

One social activist estimates that over 3,000 Rakhine youths have already been forced into military service across Myanmar, including Yangon.

Those most at risk include factory workers, individuals recently deported from Malaysia or Thailand after serving immigration-related sentences, and those who have traveled to Yangon from Rakhine State to escape regional instability.

The military currently aims to train at least 5,000 recruits per batch. With a reported intake of 25 recruits per week in certain jurisdictions, estimates suggest the total number of people forced into service nationwide has now exceeded 100,000.
