Junta Carries Out Suicide Drone Attack on Mawchi

On April 2, the military junta launched an attack on the Mawchi area in Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, using two suicide drones, according to local residents.

“They attacked yesterday. The drones struck near our shelters, an area where many people usually gathered. There were two suicide drones,” a resident from Mawchi told Kantarawaddy Times.

The junta targeted the 1-mile and 7-mile areas of Mawchi in the afternoon. During the attack, a woman in her 60s was injured.

Since the junta began conducting repeated airstrikes in the Mawchi area, most miners have returned to their homes, leaving only a small number of residents behind, according to a female mining business owner in Mawchi.

“With daily airstrikes and military offensives, some people have gone back home. Only those who dare to stay remain,” she said.

Due to ongoing airstrikes and drone attacks, people who rely on Mawchi for their livelihoods are now facing increasing difficulties, residents said.

Previously, on March 10, the junta also carried out an airstrike in Mawchi, injuring several mine workers.
