The Muslim community in Maungdaw, a town with brisk economic activities on the western Myanmar border, donated Kyats 50 million to Mrauk U hospital, which was severely damaged due to an airstrike by junta forces.
Showing an example of humanity and harmony between people with different religions, the Muslims donated the money for the renovation of the public hospital.
The donation ceremony was held on 8 February and it was handed over to the Arakha public health department under the ULA/AA rule. A good number of Muslims and local ULA/AA officials were present on the occasion.
"The donation was initiated by the Muslim Affairs Committee. Now it’s time for everyone living in the Arakan region to understand the importance of communal harmony. This donation aims to build more trust among all the people," said a Muslim leader of Maungdaw.
Muslim Affairs Committee collected the money from Muslim businessmen in Maungdaw locality.
Such donations become very important for the healthcare facilities as well as coexistence and social harmony.
Mrauk U district hospital was bombed by the junta’s air forces personnel and it was a primary healthcare institution in the locality for patients from various races and religions in Rakhine State. Shockingly, the airstrike hit the hospital on the International Human Rights Day (10 December) last year.
At least 34 hospital attendants were killed and more than 70 individuals including Women, children and elderly patients undergoing medical treatment there were seriously injured by the atrocious bombing on the hospital.
