Junta attacks Chin resistance-held village in southern Kale

Since September 5, Kyanthar Village, located on the Kale-Gangaw Highway, south of Kale Township in Sagaing Region, and controlled by Chin resistance forces, has been under attack by 200 junta troops and allied Pyu-Saw-Htee militias.

“There had been small skirmishes since August, nothing major. Since September 5, the junta has begun using large forces to launch a full-scale offensive, and the fighting remains intense,” said a source familiar with the military situation in the area.

In February 2025, Chin resistance joint forces, the Yaw Region Liberation Coalition, and revolutionary armed groups including the Dragon Brothers launched a coordinated offensive ‘the Kalay-Kabaw-Gangaw (CDF-KKG) Major Operation’ targeting junta encampments of Kanbarni, Hmantaw, Aungtharyar (East), Aungtharyar (West), and Pyu-Saw-Htee-controlled villages between Kale and Gangaw, capturing all of them within two months.

Political and military analysts believe the junta is preparing to deploy large-scale forces in an effort to regain full control of the strategically vital Kale-Gangaw Road ahead of the upcoming election.
