Child Killed by Junta Shelling in Rar Hpu Village

A child was killed and a man injured after the military junta shelled Rar Hpu Village in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region.

According to a resistance source, the shelling occurred around 11 a.m. on September 8th, despite there being no clashes in the area. A mortar fired by junta troops struck a house in the village, killing the child instantly and injuring a man, said Colonel Saw Dar Ko, Commander of Strategic Operation 33.

“The shell was fired from Infantry Battalion 282 based in Ma Yan Chaung. They deliberately target civilians to spread fear. The injured man has been moved to a safe location for treatment,” he told IMNA.

Reports indicate the child, a son of a migrant worker family, was struck in the head. Local sources also said the child’s father had been arrested by junta forces on the evening of September 7th. His situation and whether he will be released remain unconfirmed.

For nearly two months, junta troops have been conducting major offensives along the Ye–Dawei Union Highway (Route 8) to regain control of the area. The resistance alliance has mounted counterattacks, leading to near-daily clashes.
