Four civilians were killed and nine were injured in junta airstrikes on three locations in central Mogok Town in Mandalay Region on the morning of 29 July 2025.
Mogok Town is under the control of the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
One of the areas hit by the airstrikes was near to the King’s Bridge Hotel, according to a resident of the town.
He said: “This morning, while it was raining, the junta dropped bombs near the King Bridge and a few other spots. That makes it the fourth round of airstrikes they've carried out here.”
The TNLA reported that four civilians were killed and that a further nine were injured in the airstrikes.
On 26 July, the Golden Butterfly Hotel, a well-known landmark in Mogok Town was also hit by a junta airstrike.
Pro-junta Telegram channels defended the airstrike on the Golden Butterfly Hotel, claiming that the junta had received intelligence that TNLA leaders were staying at the hotel.
The airstrikes and reports that the junta is preparing to launch an offensive to retake Mogok Town have caused some Chinese businessmen who were in the town to leave.
But, since 28 July, the TNLA has closed all routes out of Mogok. They said this is necessary to carry out road repairs, according to local sources.
A Mogok Town resident said: “Right now, we can’t even get to Momeik (Mongmit) Town [30 miles to the northeast of Mogok Town]. The Mogok to Mandalay, Mogok to Momeik, and Mogok to Takaung routes are all shut. From what we’ve heard, the roads will stay closed until 6 August.”
The TNLA and allied people’s defence forces (PDFs) took control of Mogok Town on 24 July 2024. Junta airstrikes on the town have intensified since the beginning of July 2025.
