Over 1,700 fatalities and over 3,400 injuries due to the earthquake as of March 31st: Junta

According to Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun, leader of the military council's press and information department, the death toll from the devastating earthquake has surpassed 1,700, with over 3,400 people injured and more than 300 unaccounted for.

On the afternoon of March 31, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun announced the figures on the military council's propaganda station MRTV.

Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun stated, "The death toll exceeds 1,700, with over 3,400 people injured and more than 300 unaccounted for. We are working to care for the injured," he also mentioned that both international and local aid teams were participating in the earthquake crisis.

This list was gathered as of last night, March 30.

General Zaw Min Tun expressed his deep gratitude to China, India, Russia, and ASEAN member nations for dispatching relief teams to Myanmar following the earthquake.

Conversely, the Taiwan rescue team has given up its intentions to dispatch relief teams to Myanmar due to the junta authority not allowing a Taiwanese relief team to enter the nation.

The military council has faced public criticism for not allowing foreign journalists to report on the current earthquake disaster to the world.

Likewise, the public has criticized the military council for shelling ethnic regions and liberated territories while countless individuals are enduring the aftermath of the earthquake.
