Over 70 IDPs Arrested by Junta For Just Retrieving Their Belongings Sagaing Region

Over 70 IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons)who attempted a brief return to homes in Tigyaing to collect their belongings,have been arrested by the Junta forces in this township located in Sagaing Region.

This happened between February 8th-26th reported a local source. "It is true.Those individuals took a risk to retrieve their belongings, but upon returning to Tigyaing, they were arrested. The soldiers have put them in detention, but as of now no one has been released”, he said.

Junta troops initiated the arrests by detaining over 40 individuals who had returned to retrieve belongings left in the town on February 8th.There are also speculations that the locals may have been arrested because they believed rumors that the situation had calmed down, and that it was safe to return to Tigyaing.

Over 10,000 war-displaced individuals have sought refuge in Maungkone, Tankyitaung, Yayshin, Laythar, Aleltaw, Paukkone, Kyetthaychaung villages, and Takaung town following clashes between Junta troops and resistance forces in downtown Tigyaing and its environs.
