Two junta soldiers defect to PDF in Tanintharyi

Two regime soldiers from Light Infantry Battalion 561 based in Nyaungpinkwin village in Tanintharyi have surrendered to the People’s Defense Force, said the Tanintharyi-PDF.

Two privates, Tun Lin Thu and Htet Myat Thu, contacted the Tanintharyi-PDF and surrendered without weapons.

Ko Star, the spokesperson of Tanintharyi-PDF told Than Lwin Times that they welcomed the two soldiers and took them to a safe location.

Following the coup, four soldiers abandoned the No. 561 Light Infantry Battalion (LIB-561) so far, and they have all been sent to the liberated area.

In September, a soldier from the same battalion surrendered with one MA-31 gun and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, and the PDF rewarded him with more than 40 lakhs.

Following the military coup, 237 police and soldiers—98 in Dawei District, 110 in Myeik District, and 29 in Kawthaung District in Tanintharyi—joined the Civil Disobedient Movement (CDM).
