Military Council's Aerial Bombardments Cause Several Damages in Demoso Township

Military Council aircraft conducted three bombing raids in Demoso Township in Karenni (Kayah) State, resulting in significant damage, locals and resistance forces said.

Numerous houses, motorcycles and food silos were demolished due to the aerial bombardments though there were no human casualties as the locals managed to evacuate in advance, the village was empty when the plane released the bombs.

At approximately 2:00 PM on August 10th, aircraft belonging to the Military Council conducted two initial bombing runs in the vicinity of the Demoso-Hpruso Road and its surrounding areas, where conflict had been intensifying since August 2nd.

Then, around 4:00 PM that day, the Military Council's Air Force dropped a 500-pound bomb on a non-conflict zone west of Demoso, resulting in significant damage.

"The planes came twice and bombed. The first time was around 2:00 PM near the fighting zone, and the second time was around 4:15 PM. This time, they bombed a residential area, even though there was no fighting. Nobody got hurt, but lots of things got damaged”, a western Demoso resident said.

In addition, from the evening of August 10th until the following morning, the Military Council carried on with artillery attacks on the western areas of Demoso, and the specific details regarding any resulting casualties remain unknown.

Residents pointed out that the Military Council employed cluster munitions for the shelling.

A member of the resistance remarked that the Military Council is making a desperate push to secure control over the Demoso-Hpruso Road through a substantial offensive, yet the significant casualties have led them to heavily rely on air raids as a consequence.

"They did two air raids. The first hit the areas where there's a lot of fighting, and the second one hit where regular people live. It looks like they're doing many airstrikes because their ground attack isn't working out”, he told Kantarawaddy Times.

The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) has advised civilians to steer clear of areas with heightened military activity and to minimize travel through these regions whenever feasible.

The resistance forces have not yet disclosed the full extent of damages resulting from the Military Council's airstrikes, and the Kantarawaddy Times has not been able to verify the particulars at this time.

The ongoing conflict in the area continues, and the risk of indiscriminate shelling and airstrikes remains a threat, making it challenging to precisely determine the extent of damages and casualties.
