The voices of the people about the new NLD government

The ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) has recently won a landslide victory in the 2020 General Election, exceeding the number of seats required for the formation of a new government. The NLD is now able to serve a second five-year term.

The NLD secured many seats in Kachin State, defeating the local Kachin parties and also trouncing the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). The following are some voices of people in Kachin State about the new government.

Daw Gar Yone, the Internally-Displaced Persons (IDP) from Ganminekaung IDP camp

“Some IDPs have gone home. We only have access to electricity at night. I would like to urge the new government to provide education and health for the mountainous remote areas. As an IDP I want most of all to see the government make peace. We also want education, social and health when we go home.

U Lamone Gan Phan, Principal of the school for the blind

Many countries carry out the registration of persons with disabilities and provide assistance for them based on the levels of their disabilities. I would like to urge the new government to carry out the registration of the persons with disabilities and provide them with assistance. The new government is expected to create more shelter for disabled people. The government should assign the duties not only to the MPs, but also qualified people.

Ma Thira May, a resident

I look for the new parliamentarians to serve the interests of the country. I would like to urge the new government to do more in creating job opportunities for young people and bring about the country’s development.

U Naw Bauk from Zeeown IDP camp

I would like to urge the new government to do more for the education and health sectors. I expect the new government to be accountable and extend a helping hand to the people.
