Urgent assistances needed for IDPs in Naungtayar, Panglaung township

It is reported that internally displace people (IDPs) in Naungtayar sub-township, Panglang township, Southern Shan State, are in need of food, clothes, and blankets.

On 8 January 2022, fights broke out between the local armed groups and Myanmar junta, and air strikes were launched on Loikaw, the capital of Kayah State, on last weekend forcing thousands of the local natives to flee their homes.

Those IDPs are seeking refuge in the nearby townships in Taunggyi, Aung Pan, Kalaw, Nyaung Shwe, Panglaung, and Hsi Hseng.

Among them, the IDPs in Naungtayar sub-township, Panglaung township are having shortage of food, blankets, and warm clothes according to a young man who is helping the IDPs.

“The main thing is food and shelter – there is not enough food for them. Also, they came in with one pair of clothing only, so this is also an issue. Since it is cold during this time in Shan State, blankets are also needed,” the young man told SHAN.

Currently, there are about 50 people in Naungtayar sub-township who are seeking assistances.

“We are not sure about the exact number of people currently. There are about 30 people here, and some are staying in other villages. The total number of people cannot be confirmed at the moment,” an IDPs volunteer told SHAN.

Among the IDPs in Naungtayar, pregnant women and children are also included.

Since 6 January 2022, the fight between local People Defense Force (PDF) and Myanmar army have been intensified.
