Uptick in COVID-19 cases reported in Myanmar

The Myanmar health authorities say there has been a rise in COVID-19 positive cases in various regions and states, starting in early September.

In the statement, in September there are 167 people were treated and also 37 infected patients were found only on 15 September and they received treatments in Zabuthiri general hospital in Naypyitaw.

In addition, the rate of COVID-19 cases in Naypyitaw has increased since August. There are 48 government staff under the Ministry of Transport and Communications who are reported to have been infected and are receiving treatment in the 300-bed hospital in Pobbathiri Township.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications instructed half of all staff including the deputy director to work from home alternately every two weeks, according to the statement.

Residents in Naypyitaw also said that the junta troops conducted “wear masks campaigns” in the markets due to fear that COVID-19 cases may increase again in Myanmar.
