A woman was killed and at least 12 others injured during two consecutive days of airstrikes by the Myanmar military in Singu Township, according to Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Organizations.
On the night of 17 April, a military aircraft dropped bombs near Nat Taung Village, killing 50-year-old Daw Mon and injuring four civilians.
Just a day earlier, at around noon on 16 April, a fighter jet struck near Thayaw Pin Village, leaving eight people wounded, Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Organizations reported.
Singu Township is currently under the full control of revolutionary forces, and the junta, unable to advance on the ground, has intensified its reliance on air power.
“They can’t regain control of the territory, so they’re targeting civilians to spread fear and lower morale,” said a spokesperson for the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Organizations.
The military also launched an airstrike on Lake Kya Village in neighboring Thabeikkyin Township on 16 April. Though there were no casualties in that attack, multiple homes and buildings sustained damage.
Residents report that the Military Council has been launching airstrikes and heavy artillery from the No.13 Military Advanced Training Depot located in Thabeikkyin Township.
This latest wave of attacks comes just a month after a deadly airstrike on 14 March that hit a bustling market near Letpanhla Village in Singu Township, killing at least 27 civilians.
