Traffic came to a standstill in Hsenwi Township after the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) fought with the Burma Army (BA) in northern Shan State over the weekend.

A local reported to SHAN on condition of anonymity that traffic on the road from Hsenwi to Kunlong was disrupted after Ta’ang soldiers near Pan Tee village and BA soldiers on the roadway began firing at each other at around 8am on Sunday 13 November.

A woman from Kutkai, who also wishes to remain anonymous, said that the army started firing artillery at the TNLA from the town in the first minutes of the fighting. ”I think they fired at least 10 shells, but I can’t say if there were any causalities or damage (to properties).”

The Shan State Progress Party, an ally of the TNLA, fought with BA’s Infantry Battalion 23 in Hsipaw Township at around 4am on Friday 11 November.

SHAN asked the TNLA spokesperson for a comment on the Hsenwi violence but he didn’t respond at the time of going to press.
