The three plaintiff’s witnesses were examined at the trial on September 6 in the case of the Mon Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan charged with abuse of power in the election by the coup military council, according to the sources close to the court.

According to Article 171 (f) of the Penal Code, the military council filed two cases against Prime Minister Dr. Aye Zan for abuse of power during the 2020 general election.

On September 6, Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan appeared before the special court for this case in the Kyaikmaraw Central Prison where he was detained.

At this trial, three plaintiff’s witnesses were examined, including U Htin Kyaw, secretary of the Mawlamyine District Election Commission, who is the plaintiff on the junta side.

After the Union Supreme Court decided to dismiss the entire case on June 29 because those two cases did not have permission from the prosecution organization, the coup council prosecuted again.

After the military coup, Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan was sentenced to 25 years in prison: 21 years for nine counts of corruption, two years under section 505 (a) and another two years under section 130 (a).
