Three out of four Kachin parties decide to register merged party

Although four Kachin political parties have originally agree to merge, the Kachin National Congress (KNC) is unable to abolish its party at the moment so only three parties have decided to register the party.

The 17-member public representative committee, which led the Kachin parties’ merger, gave a briefing at Majoi Gawknu Hall in Manau ground in Myitkyina on October 27 and explained that most of the KNC members will join the Kachin merged party even though the KNC is unable to join them yet.

The 17-member party merger committee was established with public representatives on April 10 and the merged party's name - the Kachin State Party (KSP) and the party's flag have been decided under its leadership.

After the briefing, the 17-member committee prayed and entrusted the party’s flag and emblem to the party leaders on October 27.

The Kachin Democratic Party (KDP), the Kachin State Democracy Party (KSDP), and the Unity and Democracy Party of the Kachin State (UPDKS) have pledged to abolish their parties and they will start working on the party registration.

The Kachin State Party will accept new members after it has been registered.
