Three Chin national parties will sign a merger agreement in Yangon on September 29, the Chin Progressive Party (CPP) chair U No Than Kap said.
“The public want us to win as we are going to run in the election under the 2008 Constitution. We want to win and enter the parliament and discuss the Chin people’s affairs thoroughly. After these three parties merge at the union level, other parties will follow us. We believe the ethnic people will become united and speak with a single voice. We believe it will be more beneficial in terms of regional development, nationalism, and religion to establish a single party, which will lead to stronger unity,” said U No Than Kap.
The three parties which will sign the merger are the Chin National Democratic Party (CNDP), the Chin Progressive Party (CPP), and the Chin League for Democracy (CLD).
“Various criticisms were made by the public in the 2010 Election. We were told that we were to be blamed for losing the election and splitting up the votes. How do we respond? We have to monitor this. As for us, we have to do everything for the public because our party is established based on the public. We need to fulfill our duty to stop the public from saying that they had to vote for another party because the three parties were divided and they didn’t know which party to vote for,” he continued.
Respective officials from nine townships and respective journals will be invited to the merger signing ceremony on September 29, U No Than Kap said.
