Thousands of locals have been fleeing since October 27 as the junta advanced with massive forces along the Kale-Gangaw Highway in Kale (Kalay) Township, southern Sagaing Region.

“The junta has moved a large number of troops from northern Kale Township in a convoy of 15 to 20 trucks, some towing artillery. Some soldiers emerged from the Regional Operations Command headquarters, while others came from Kale Technological University. It appears the junta is preparing to launch an operation to clear the route from Kale to Gangaw,” a local source told Chin World.

Junta soldiers who came out of Kale Technological University were divided into three columns. According to locals, one of the columns entered Kyunchaung Village in Kale Township around 1:00 pm on October 27 and burned down houses.

Thousands of locals had to flee for safety following the junta’s large-scale operation along the Kale-Gangaw Road.

On October 16, the junta airlifted a large number of troops into Kale Town. With these forces, it launched simultaneous offensives to reclaim resistance-held areas along the Kale-Tamu Road to the north and the Kale-Gangaw Road to the south of the town.
