A solo walker who advocates for peace in Myanmar has arrived in the Kayah (Karenni) State’s capital Loikaw via Pekon-Moebyel Road on September 8.

The solo walker, Ko Soe Wai, arrived in Loikaw while wearing a T-shirt with the slogan “Peace in Myanmar” and holding the Myanmar flag.

Ko Soe Wai started his journey from Pyay and plans to walk in all 14 states and regions.

“The public needs to be interested in order for the 21st Century Panglong Conference to be successful. They need to participate and cooperate. I understand this so I have been walking with the aim to urge the public,” said Ko Soe Wai.

He continued that lack of public awareness and participation was the reason behind the failure of the peace conference, which was organized by the Revolutionary Council government in 1964, and he does not want the same thing to happen to the 21st Century Panglong Conference.

However, the 21st Century Panglong Conference is unable to reach the goal even though three sessions have been held due to the participants who unavoidably have to attend the conference and those that attend it to receive benefits, he criticized.

“The civil war has been running for seven decades. Our country is about to turn into ashes and it will be reduced to ashes if we cannot reach the peace goal quickly. That’s why we need to have peace,” he said.

He said the Myanmar society needs to solve civil war issues with peaceful and political means and not with arms.

Although he has faced some obstacles on his solo journey, he will continue to walk to Hsiheng, Taunggyi, Mandalay, and Myitkyina and end his journey in Yangon.
