Six of ten people from Ponnagyun Township who have been detained on suspicion of involvement with the AA have were bailed out on 15 August, according to Ponnagyun Myoma police station.

 

“We handed them over to their parents. They were granted bail,” said police captain Khin Maung Aye, head of Ponnagyun Myoma police station.    

The ten young people, from 15 to 23 years old, were arrested on 27 July in Ponnagyun town including the driver of the vehicle transporting them.

 

Police stopped a vehicle and detained them at Ponnagyun Myoma police station for questioning.

 

Each two family members of six youths had to pay for the bail, said Daw May Than Yee, mother of a detained youth said.

 

“My son was bailed out but has to appear in court on 23 August. We put up our house as collateral. It’s worth MMK nine million,” Daw May Than Yee said.

 

The youths who have been bailed are under 18 years old. They are from Yaw Chaung and Thaya villages in Myebon Township, Kalama Taung village in Minbya Township, Ywar Chaung Gyi village in Pauk Taw Township, Thasi village in Ponnagyun Township and Pyar Bin Yin village from Rathedaung Township.

 

The Tatmadaw announced on 28 July that eight of them were picked out to join the AA through Pauk Taw Palaung village in Kyuaktaw Township.

 

The AA’s spokesperson Khaing Thukha said that it was just a false accusation of the Tatmadaw.

 

“The youths are not concerned with us. At the moment, they are not safe even in their house,”Khiang Thukha said.

 

Out of ten people, six were bailed out and another four are detained and will have to appear in the court on 23 August. The driver will face trial for driving without license.

 

Zaw Win Naing and Kyaw San Win from Myebon Township, Maung Than Tun from Pauktaw Township and Naing Lin Tun from Rathedaung Township are remanded.

 

“They all are not charged now. They have to appear in court to be examined,” said U Khin Maung Latt, Amyotha Hluttaw MP for Rathedaung and Ponnagyun Townships.
