Three Myanmar military fighter jets dropped 500-pound bombs on former military installations in Arakan State's Mrauk-U Township shortly after noon on September 17, according to residents.

The airstrikes targeted former bases of Light Infantry Battalions (LIBs) 540, 377, and 378, as well as Police Battalion 31 and adjacent areas.

"Four bombs hit Light Infantry Battalion 540, and other former bases were also targeted," a local woman said. "Casualties remain unknown. Town entry and exit checkpoints were temporarily closed during the raid, but normal movement has since resumed."

Development Media Group (DMG) is working to verify potential civilian casualties.

"Three fighter jets launched strikes across the former bases," another resident added. "Although the attack caused widespread panic, the situation has since stabilized."

Earlier that morning, junta aircraft also conducted airstrikes on Kuntaung Village and near the Minchaung Bridge in neighboring Ponnagyun Township.

Facing heavy ground losses in ongoing clashes with the Arakan Army (AA) in Sittwe Township, the military regime has intensified daily air raids across surrounding townships in Arakan State.

"Because regime forces are taking heavy losses in Sittwe, they are repeatedly bombing towns like Mrauk-U and Ponnagyun," a resident warned. "They might target residential areas next, so people need to remain on high alert for air threats."

The junta has deployed substantial ground troops, backed by heavy air and naval support, attempting to advance into Arakan State from strongholds in Sittwe and Kyaukphyu.

In response to the escalating aerial campaign, the Arakan Army has urged civilians across the region to exercise extreme caution.
