Rubber traders told Than Lwin Times that rubber prices in Mon State had risen again due to renewed demand from Thailand.

Rubber prices have rebounded slightly because of higher global rubber prices, increased demand from Thailand and the closure of rubber farms.

The price of rubber has risen from almost 1,000 kyats per pound in May to almost 1,200 kyats per pound in June.

According to a rubber trader, Thailand used to buy only pure rubber, but now it is buying inferior rubber.

Rubber exports fell after the military council restricted the dollar exchange rate, and now exports have rebounded.

However, rubber growers are not making a profit due to the high prices of inputs, fertilizers and other related products as well as a period of closed rubber farms.

Mon State has about 500,000 acres of rubber plantations and produces over 100,000 tons of rubber annually. The rubber is primarily sent to China.
