Residents of A Shay Pyin Ward in Mindat are objecting to the plan to build Ooredoo cell tower in their ward as the tower is located too close to the residential area, Mindate resident Salai Shin Aung Lain said.
“We are not objecting to the installation of Ooredoo tower. They can install it. There will be many side effects since it is located too close to our home. I have kids at home and it’s not good for their health. It’s dangerous. We aren’t objecting because we don’t like the company or because we hate the people. We don't want them to install it near our home due to our health concern. We want it to be relocated. If they won’t accept our objection, we will submit to the higher authority,” said Salai Shin Aung Lain.
Ward Administrator U Nine Um said local residents of A Shay Pyin Ward came to his office to sign the letter of objection against the illegal cell tower.
According to him, he invited the company, the land owner, and the local residents to negotiate the issue but the company and the land owner did not come and only the local residents came to attend the meeting.
“ECO Company told me that they have received a letter of recommendation from the municipal. I told them that the municipal only gave the recommendation for the tower installation and their installation is not legal yet and they need to receive official permission from the township administrator to make it legal. They are receiving an objection because they are trying to install [the cell tower] without the official letter,” said U Nai Um.
He added that he submitted the letter of objection from 42 residents of A Shay Pyin Ward to the township administration office since the land owner and the company failed to negotiate with them.
