Public lacks interest in November by-election

Local residents of Matupi Township in the southern Chin State are losing interest in the by-election, the State Hluttaw MP U Aung Lian said.

“Nobody is interested in this by-election. Nobody go and look at the voter list to see whether or not their names are included in the list in order to vote in the by-election. When I asked them, they told me that they don’t know and they didn’t go and look at it,” said U Aung Lian, the State Hluttaw MP from Matupi Township.

“Nearly everyone has lost interest in this by-election. They lack interest because the National League for Democracy (NLD) government is a little weak in implementing [the pledges it has made] in the campaign before it took office in 2015. So, the public thought that there won’t be a difference no matter who they vote for. Another thing is that there hasn’t been any significant [development] in politics so they believe there won’t be any difference,” he continued.

He added that he wants the public to vote for the candidate who can act accordingly with the items that are provided by the government for regional development.

The by-election will be held on November 3 and it will be held in the Chin State in Matupi constituency for a seat in the State Hluttaw and in Kanpetlet constituency for a seat in the Pyithu Hluttaw.
