A police convoy struck explosive devices on the morning of 20 August in Ponnagyun Township, killing a police captain and injuring others, according to local sources.

The police convoy left Kyauktaw Township and on the way to Sittwe Township, but struck two explosive devices in Ponnagyun Township; the first was near Pet Khwet village and the second was near Pyaing Taw village.

The convoy is from No. 32 Police Force and it happened at about 10a.m.

Colonel Win Zaw Oo, head of the Western Command, said: “The police convoy struck landmines on the way of Sittwe-Kyauktaw road.”

Police colonel Kyi Lin, chief of Arakan State police force, said that he could not make any comment about the incident.

The DMG is still trying to confirm the incident.
