PDF Clash With Burma Army In Mongmit Township

Fighting broke out for an hour between the People’s Defence Forces (PDF) and the Burma Army (BA) in Mongmit Township in northern Shan State.

“PDF troops came from Thabeik Kyin (Mandalay Region) to Mogoke and then to Mongmit, where they fought with BA Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 348,” a local told SHAN, suggesting that more than 200 resistance fighters were involved in the battle on Wednesday 3 August.

Another local source, also requesting anonymity, said the BA launched a military operation against the PDF in Thabeik Kyin Township.

“BA has tightened security in Thabeik Kyin Township and forced PDF troops to enter Mongmit Township, which is why there was fighting.”

The other BA units stationed in Mongmit are Infantry Battalion 223, 276 and Light Infantry Division 99, as well as the Ta’ang National Liberation Army, Kachin Independence Army and Shan State Progress Party, which oppose the regime.
