Over 400 homes inundated in Putao Township’s flooding

Some villages in Putao Township, northern Kachin State have been affected by flooding caused by the overflowing of the mountain stream as a result of heavy rain since Sunday (September 9).

Local resident U Awng Kham said over 400 homes from Ah Htet San Kaung, Lon Mu Dam, War Sar, Mon Ngo, and Pu Taung villages and nearby villages have been inundated.

“Floodwater has entered the rice barns, where rice has been stored for a year's worth. The water rose up to five feet high. All the motorcycles and pig pens, which were located under the houses, have been inundated. The plowing machines have been broken,” he said.

Floodwater still has not receded from three schools and some roads and bridges have been damaged by the flood so there are difficulties in teaching the students.

However, the local authorities still have not assisted the flood-affected areas and the flood victims are in need of drinking water and other aids.
